MiDNI digital is a digital identity platform that allows people to be identified securely in both public and private services. Inspired by European electronic identity models, its goal is to simplify users’ lives, reduce fraud and streamline procedures that until now required in-person attendance or paper documents.
MiDNI is the official application developed by the Spanish National Police to carry the DNI on a mobile phone with the same legal validity as the physical document. This app allows in-person identification by means of a QR code, avoiding the need to show the physical plastic card while maintaining the same level of legal recognition.
With MiDNI digital, it is possible to access government portals, sign electronic contracts, carry out banking procedures or validate identity on registration and check-in platforms where identity verification is a legal requirement. All of this can be done from a computer or mobile device, with maximum protection of personal data.
The system is structured in three essential phases: registration, authentication and use.
The registration process involves official verification of the user, usually through the physical DNI or a biometric system (facial recognition or fingerprint). The aim is to ensure that the account truly belongs to the holder and to avoid duplicates or attempted fraud.
From 2 April 2026, all entities in the public and private sectors will be required to accept the digital DNI as a valid means of identification. This means that government bodies, banks, tourism businesses and registration platforms must adapt their verification systems, update their procedures and train their staff in the use of the digital DNI. For guest-management platforms such as Check-in Scan, this measure represents a natural evolution towards immediate and 100% digital identity verification, complying with current regulations and improving the user experience.
In the context of tourism and guest management, this brings a major change: guest data can be captured directly from their MiDNI, with no need to copy the information from the document manually. The result is a faster, more secure process with fewer errors.
Thanks to its interoperability, MiDNI digital can be used to:
Some platforms, such as Check-in Scan, have already integrated MiDNI into their guest registration flow. The goal is simple: to use the digital DNI’s QR code to read the data automatically and complete the check-in form in seconds.
This flow drastically reduces the time needed to register guests, eliminates transcription errors and ensures that the data sent to the authorities is correct and legible.
Thanks to scanning the MiDNI QR code, the guest’s information is filled in automatically with verified data from the official document. This eliminates common mistakes when manually typing names, document numbers or dates of birth, ensuring that the recorded information is accurate and matches real identity records.
Check-in is completed in a matter of seconds. By simply scanning the QR, the system loads all necessary data without the need to type or review forms. This is especially useful when there are multiple arrivals at the same time or large groups, reducing queues and optimising the time of reception staff or the accommodation manager.
The process becomes much more convenient and modern. The traveller only needs to show the QR from their mobile, without worrying about handing over the physical document or waiting while their details are copied. This conveys a sense of agility and trust, improving their first impression of the accommodation.
MiDNI ensures that the recorded information comes from an official source and is securely integrated into the systems required by regulations (such as Royal Decree 933/2021). In this way, the establishment guarantees legal compliance with identification and registration obligations, avoiding errors or duplicate data in information sent to the authorities.
Yes, MiDNI has the same legal validity as the physical document. You can use it both to identify yourself before public bodies and to carry out procedures or hotel check-ins without needing to show your physical card.
You only need to have a valid electronic DNI and to download the official “MiDNI” application on your mobile. During the activation process, your identity is verified using the DNI chip and a biometric system (facial recognition).
From 2 April 2026, all establishments and platforms will be required to accept the digital DNI as a valid identification method. Platforms that have already adapted, such as Check-in Scan, allow the MiDNI QR to be scanned so that the data can be registered automatically.
The information captured from MiDNI comes from an official source and is protected by encrypted security protocols. The data is used solely for the traveller-registration obligation required by law
