Hotels offer rooms classified under certain criteria so guests know the characteristics of each and can choose based on their occupancy needs, size, layout, or other factors. Generally, the most well-known room types are those appearing in classifications from major vacation rental platforms like Airbnb or Booking.
Single room: The simplest type of room. For one guest with a bed (usually double).
Double room: Room for two guests. Usually has a double bed (king or queen size) or two single beds.
Triple room: Room for three guests. Usually has a double bed (king or queen) plus a single bed, or 3 single beds.
Quadruple room: Room for four people. Usually has 2 double beds (king or queen) or 4 single beds.
Standard room: Regular hotel rooms with features adapted to the hotel’s category.
Suite room: This type of room usually has a different layout from standard rooms. It separates the bedroom area from a living area. Sometimes it includes a small kitchen.
Deluxe room: A category above standard rooms in terms of amenities within the room itself. It also usually has better views than standard rooms.
Mini-suite: This room type has the same features as a suite but is for one person.
Presidential suite: The most luxurious rooms in the hotel. Depending on the hotel’s categorization, there may be one, two, or none. They usually house prestigious personalities or anyone willing to pay the price for staying in the room.
This classification is the least common:
Queen: Double bed measuring 150 cm wide by 203 cm long.
King: Double bed measuring 190 cm wide by 203 cm long.
Double: Two single beds in the hotel room. For one or two people.
Twin: Same as a double room, but the single beds are joined together.
Double-double: Room with two double beds.
Studio: This room type usually has a kitchen, small living room, sofa bed, or even extra beds. It’s typically a more spacious room.
